Why would they even think about doing that? Rolling Eyes Irrespective of the fact if a V8 5ltr supercharged can be spooned into the Defender, it would require a huge amount of research and investment to match that thing with a compatible gear- and transfer box, compatible braking system and suspension system, etc. On top of that would come the homologation in the EU and maybe Australia which would not be an easy one.
The Defender is just not suitable for such power plant, so Land Rover will not make the mistake of offering a boy racer last edition which once people are getting killed would give them negative publicity which they can miss like the plague.
Think a last edition will be more cosmetically upgraded than engine wise, this has been the recent trend anyway, and that is probably a smart choise for such a historic design. Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

ericvv....Agree mate.
There is NO WAY a V8 Supercharged (ANY V8 actually) engine is going to find its way into a factory produced Defender via Solihull.
Like you say, EVERYTHING would have to be upgraded, and for sure, it would be an AWESOME vehicle, if it happened, but the whole scenario is fantasy, 'cause it ain't gonna happen.
As far as I'm concerned, there will be no "New" engine in Defender before its demise, not saying a 3/3.2 V6 wouldn't be nice, but it's far too late for that now,...... if that was ever going to happen, & I reckon it should've, it would've been several years ago.
I believe the "final" Defender will comprise a "cosmetic" pakage.

The last V8s for Europe were the 50th edition vehicles in 1998, so I suppose if they produced something to a similar spec it could make sense. I doubt they will though, as it would nevertheless require loads of work, and they don't make that particular V8 anymore. Look forward to some stickers, alloys and fancy paint colours, and probably not a lot more. Confused

Don't get me wrong I wish the last of the line was a super duper machine with all sorts of fancy things, but I just can't quite see it. 2011 110 USW

I have to agree with the last few posts.

To add a bit more to the 'it wont happen' point of view. If a bigger engine were to be added and as mentioned bigger brakes etc etc. So would these changes require design changes that would then require costly type approvals.

JE Engineering in Coventry have been removing Puma engines and slapping Petrol V8's into brand new Defenders for a few years now . These vehicles all head out to Saudi.

Spoke to my dealer today, still no news on a/the last edition. Assuming MY2015 will be only run out edition models, I guess that would be announced in the summer for changes? Yes, "Last time to order" (what you want) will be the interesting scenario. It would not be good to walk into your Dealership to order your Defender, only to be told, "The factory is not taking any more orders"? I mean you still may be, at that time, able to buy a unit off the floor, but customer build?..No.

Everyone seems to be in panic mode , the defender production Is NOT finishing . It's only in this country and those of EU regulations that it's being ruled out . Production IS continuing on a brand new line in China both in right and left hand drive to supply the huge demand in Eastern states and other countries whose regulations and emissions are not as stringent as the EU .
So unless they put a ban on imports ( unlikely ) then you will still be able to buy a brand new defender for yrs to come .

Keith, unless you have hard evidence of that, really hard to believe. Can you substantiate your statement please? If this were true and if this news would be filtering out, it would be all over the internet I guess. Quickly googled "China Defender production" in various ways and come up with 0....

Even if they did continue production in China or Indian (and I can't find any evidence that this will be happening) it will not be possible to import them into the EU,so it would make no difference to us! Unless they are going to be re-engineered to allow import, in which case they may as well retain production at Solihull! 2011 110 USW

22900013A, you saved me the bother of typing the same thing. As a direct comparison, the 4WD Suzuki SJ410 continues to be made in India and marketed as the Maruta Gypsy; but no way would it be allowed to be imported into the UK.

Should Defenders be built overseas for developing world countries, I don't imagine the same quality materials will be used, such as aluminium etc.

And the models built would probably have earlier or entirely different motors than those used in the UK, as has been the case in Defender global history.

Should the aforementioned happen, Russia might be a candidate for Defender manufacture. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Not sure how well you know that country, but I do, and I can assure you that today they will not allow such a inefficient product of a bygone era to be produced in their country. I can assure you that today any foreign company wanting to establish an industrial operation in Russia will have to comply with the most stringent EU norms,........... and then some. Rolling Eyes No Russian company will be interested in this technology and production process either.
FSU countries have some Defender enthusiasts like we all are, but the numbers are small. Essentially all FSU countries are typical FFRR buyers, 99% of which will be black color. Cool

Are you kidding - seen the quality used in Solihull now? It might just mean some of the parts have less far to travel before being fitted; and so will make the vehicle more green Laughing

Who can we believe ? My info came from LR insider . Im as the same thought as you guys but one has to say what he hears . I bet there is a movement within LR to tell a different story to anyone who asks questions .
But as i mentioned ,

( defender is far too important in many other countries for the company to stop its production . )
The other Huge burning question is that of 2015 ? How can it end in Dec 2015 when EU regs must be adheared to by March 2015 . Making end date of Dec 2014 .
Its all very well LR lawyers trying everythin to prolong this date but EU is steadfast to March 2015 .
