TD5 spigot bush removal
hi all, im trying to change the spigot bush and i was told to make a dowel to fit the inner diamiter of the bush fill the bush with greese and smake the dowel in with a hammer, having made a bush to fit snug in the new bush i tried it to find 1 the old one was too worn to seal the greese, tried insulation tape round it but to no avail, looked harder at the bush to find it has disintigrasted. anyone got ideas of how else to remove the bush??? please anything im losing my sense of humour cheers ed

A trick i have used in the past is to get an appropriate sized rawbolt and wrap some wet and dry paper around the expanding end with the abrassive side outwards to give it some grip and insert the expanding end of the rawbolt into the bush and and wind it open until it grips the bush tightly then put a set of mole grips on the rawbolt head and beat it outwards with a hammer.

Whenever I've done the grease-and-hammer trick, i've not really worried about the bolt being a really snug fit (although it does help)

Just hit the bolt harder. I wrap a piece of cloth/rag around the end where the bush is going to pop out of, to save me and everything else getting covered in the grease.

then give it several hard sharp whallops. usually pops out then.

The alternative to the grease method is the good old fashioned chisel/drift method. You should be able to get on to the outer edge of the bush and collapse it in on itself with a couple of good smacks.

Thanks for the speedy replies, it had to be the chisel in the end, when i finally removed it i discoved half the bush to be missing, turned around to find shrapnel in the bell housing. never again am i listening to people who say don't worry it goes when its warm... cheers ed
