HELP needed headlight failure

Hi all, my headlights didn't work when coming home this evening, I don't have dip or main beam on both sides, I do have the spots still working on main beam, am I right in thinking, the light switch has packed in. All help & guidance appreciated, can't check till the morning when it's light.

Yes, probably the switch melting because of too much amps going thru. Happens frequently, see my post earlier here. Cheers, Vincent

Hi Mark, Yes you are correct! Its a common Defender fault as the headlights are wired directly to the switch without the use of a relay so the switch eventually burning out is the end result. Once you replace the switch it might be worth modifying the headlight wiring to incorporate a relay to take the load off the switch to prevent it happening again in the future. Hope this helps!

there was a link on the forum to a company who make a plug and play loom complete with relays for defenders ... WTF they don't fit them at standard I don't know but they are available for peeps who want a quick "proper" fix

One of the first things that happened in my Defender ownership, the melting light switch - so one of my first mods, installing the relay loom along with a new switch.

Just been looking at new switches on fleabay, there are cheap switches at around a tenner and OEM at £25, does anyone know if there is actually any difference in quality between them.

Lucas is the one you need. Got mine from a seller called Adventure 4x4 on ebay. This was the best price I could find. About £22. I have seen reports of the ones in blue boxes lasting weeks before melting!

Will do the relay mod in the spring I think!
