The Smell of Gear Oil
After using the 90 for a twenty minutes or so, when I get out I get a strong smell of gear oil. It is similar to having the seals go on the diff UJ's, and I expected to see the underside dripping in oil- No such joy. What I do have is a damp/wet front axle breather -

Could this be the cause ? changed the oil 12 months ago and been fine. Only really had road use for the past 4 months, so can't see it getting snagged/banged. I must check the oil level, but due to the dire weather have not as yet. The other thing of note is the nearside swivel-

which I am assuming is just new seals ?? Not sure if the 2 are related welcome all theories and opinions. I did do a search but no joy Mal Rolling Eyes Thanks Jim

When I had this, it turned out to be the rear oil seal leaking onto the handbrake drum. A P0022 recall fixed it.

Thanks Merlin - it is dry, but will have a better look at the weekend. it is also 2005 TD5, which I didn't mention as I believe most differences are subtle.
No Steve not checked yet, predominately due to the precipitation falling. Can't see what will have causwed a blockage, might be wrong but no events of note

^^ That was what I saw thinking, I thought the same with mine though and even checked it and found it was clear. So it's a possibility. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Confused Leaks are a real pain in the backside I know that, I don't think there is many that don't at least a little. It depends how severe it is determines the course of action to take. Laughing Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

What oil is in there are you sure it's been put in to the correct grade? If you did it yourself then won't be the issue. I know the smell you mean though.... Whistle think leaking vintage tractor. Rolling with laughter Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I did the hubs, researched and used correct grade IIRC EP75/80. Been fine, oil level is good so don't think it can be the diffs Rolling Eyes
