Diagnostics tool in front of dash.
A while ago I saw someone's photo here on the forum where he had mounted a diagnostics tool's display between his steering wheel and dashboard. Did a search but can't find it anymore.

The screen was a blue lit monochrome one, small enough to fit easily in your hand.

Looking for the brand. Anyone any ideas?

Nope was an ultra gauge (not mine) http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/

And you saw it here in my thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic22718....space+dash

there are scan gauges and ultra gauges on that thread, I've just bought an ultra gaugue, not had time to set it up yet but looks good Cheers, David

PS; I've not set it up as I'd like yet (went off to uni), but it correctly diagnosed the high pressure fuel pump fault on my 2.4 tdci Cheers, David

If you stump up for a good Bluetooth sender and also have an Android phone, there is also Torque which is brilliant!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details...&hl=en

The sender to use is the Scantool OBDLink MX which can do very fast data transfers (62 PIDs/second), but of course, you pay for it - http://www.scantool-direct.co.uk/obdlink-m...e-57-p.asp Craig Rogers

yes, the ultra gauges are pretty good, Lorryman100 did a review of the UG vs the Scan Gauge, both do the same job. the UG has a bigger screen and is cheaper. You can create 7 custom pages of information on the UG, I used mine to monitor the air intake temperature for my arctic trip. it can also do MPG, reset fault codes etc.

Does the fuse box cover still close properly with the Ultra gauge plugged in on a Puma?

Is this the post from Lorryman? - it seems he deleted the information.

you need to plug the tool in, then unscrew the OBD connector from the fuse panel. I ran the cable behind the dash and did it all behind the scenes.

it only take 5 minutes to remove the dash top, move the instruments away to get access to the back of the dash, the nice thing about the ultra gauge is it comes with the screen mount.

here is a link to the user manual https://www.defender2.net/gallery/albums/u...Manual.pdf

Re: the plug fitting etc, I popped the port backwards behind the fuse box (it just pops out) and then you can plug in & close the cover Cheers, David

give me a shout if you want any specific questions /advice which would otherwise require one to be in your hands to answer, and for this category of product (never tried another) but i stongly reccommend it, and not too expensive either Cheers, David

The UG caught my eye at the time too and the price was good. Didn't proceed though because the illumination is blue (could be variable though perhaps?) and the website didn't seem to great. If someone like Killer or Paddocks sold them I'd have been a lot more inclined to purchase. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Nope colour doesn't vary, although I didn't find it particularly offensive in colour (like some radios etc can be) because there's nothing flashing or anything, just a fairly simple display. You can adjust contrast too.

Website is poor but product is good Smile and shipping isn't too bad either, or so I found Cheers, David

So I finally bought me one.

Next question now is, how do I change the connector in the car so I can keep it plugged in with the lid closed?
A step by step guide with pictures would be great, but an explanation would be helpfull as well.

I also noticed that it lights up when the car is not running, is that a risk for the battery or does it turn itself off after a while or is there a way to have it fully turned off when the car isn't running? Ofcourse I understand the need for it working if the car doesn't start (fault codes), but...
