clattering noise
Hi all on start up 200tdi makes a loud clattering noise when on tick over that stops when the engine is revved it doesnt happen all the time any clues is it the clutch

Excuse the question but how long have you had the 200? They sound about as refined as an old Massey tractor on a good day... Whistle

Clattering noises... Pop outside and whilst the engine is running undo the oil filler cap in the rocker cover, does the clattering get much worse? If no then it is not your tappets... Although when were they last adjusted?

Could also be a duff lift pump. Does the engine start ok? Smoke at all?

Does it sound as if it,s coming from the transmission area ? my old TD and 300 Tdi had chatter on start up coming from that area that went if i dipped the clutch and let it straight back up again,never gave any issues though ! 2005 Td5 90 XS

had her for a year also have 300tdi no noises with that not sure when tappets done
