Liam,

Your Defender does not have factory fitted air con if it does not have the extended front end. More likely, it was dealer fitted (probably a late customer request). All Defenders come with the extended front end when built at the factory (and I think for certain regulations it always has the extended nose).

Being a proper sad geek...

If you zoom in on your picture of the front end, your Defender has the two diagonal bars for the slam panel - a proper factory spec air con does not have this set up. Circled in red.

The genuine setup has different mounting frame as below.

However, dealer fit air con (made by the same people) uses a different condenser and a slightly different mounting. It also fits without modifying the front end.

I'm also intregiued how your intercooler and radiator are packaged...

It should be from the front of the car - condensor, intercooler, coolant radiator (and engine). But in the pic it looks like your intercooler might be at the front.

If you PM me your chassis number I can look at the build spec for you.

Going back to the parts required...

The upper fixing stay the same - but you need all of the above for the lower mounts to do it propely...

I happen to have an as new air con front end for sale Wink

They don't offer an XS hardtop...

Also, with my Land Rover spotter cap on... Which is very similar to a train spotters one, but without the manditory Peter Storm waterproof, cheese sandwiches and thermos flask.

In his gallery it shows it with orange lens front indicators and black grills... An XS has clear lens and grey front plastics...

im preferring the sticky out, with the foam a bar ontop too, there is a big gap between the a bar and the grill as the a bar is for an air con defender... i bought it when i first got the car unaware that mine was different as it came with air con... hopefully i can purchase porny's grill and when i go for some software tweaking it will be fitted.

What was the verdict then bud? Were you able to fit the later style “sticky out” grill?

Id like to put the later style on my 1988 if it’s doable
