A couple wee issues
Hey guys,

well, the inevitable Land Rover faults are starting to catch up with me and my '07 tdci I think.

No. 1: For a while she's been smoking white smoke and idling a little rough on a cold (properly cold) startup, but this smoking stopped when the engine warmed up and the idle went back to normal - according to searches on here this was "normal". For the last couple journeys I've taken the smoke has gone away when the engine warmed up, but the idle has stayed rough - it'll idle smooth and normal for a good few seconds after a run (between lights or along the motorway) then start to misfire on one or two cylinders (I think). The rev counter fluctuates about 1-200 revs and the car shakes noticeably. It clears after a few seconds, then goes back to rough idling a few seconds later. The fuel economy has taken a bit of a dive as well. She doesn't appear to be using any oil or coolant (though the oil does appear to smell like hamburgers, is that normal? Whistle ) and I had a quick look at the air filter which doesn't seem to be dirty - it was last serviced in July.
Am I looking at something stupid like an oil change and a good spit-shine, something a little more serious like an EGR valve, MAF, or gasket, or something heartbreakingly expensive like a destroyed engine, ruined pride, and lifelong ban from happiness and joy?

No. 2
: When I pull away initially after a night or longer at rest, she resists - after I add more revs and release more clutch there's a bang and she rolls normally. Could that be a rusty/sticking handbrake or something?

I wouldn't be so worried about taking the old girl to get fixed, except that I have to drive to my parents' place tomorrow, so can't do it this weekend (and can't break down!!!!)

Anyone think I'm driving a ticking time bomb, or will I make it to my parents house three hours' drive away - place your bets! Thumbs Up Geoff

Aye that's what I thought. Thought about leaving it without the handbrake overnight to see if it does it tomorrow, but my fear of having it rolled into a truck during the night and never seen again took over Laughing

cheers Thumbs Up Geoff
