OK product is for an ATV but could it be scaled up for a defender sized vehicle and either go above or below the axles?

Didn't military forward controls have something similar?

Yes, and Ibex, although the ropes in those cases went either through the chassis or special guide tubes. I'm not sure how practical it would be to route underneath a Defender but I guess not impossible with a bit in ingenuity. Darren

Defender centre mounted winch with cable to the rear around a snatch block and then to front of Defender.

Single line pull to the front, or pull pin and have double line pull to rear.

Hybrid used to have PTO which worked like that.

Red 110 is winch equipped front and back.

Options already exist.

Yes was thinking about both of those applications and whether this was a third simpler retro fit option.

The Ibex is possibly the best engineered solution but sits inside the vehicle, so compromises internal load space.

I have it in my mind that the 101 was a bit of a faff to change from front to rear pull...but someone must know for sure?

Military winch-equipped vehicles as well as heavy haulage units have used this principle since about 1920. The biggest problems on a LR type are the lack of a clear route for the cable front to rear, and the absence of any form of paying-on gear on types of winch we use.

You're quite right Supacat, it was indeed a faff to swap from front to rear winching.... It was a mid mounted capstan running from the gearbox. You had to remove the hook from the cable and haul it back through the front crossmember and the through the 2 guide rollers on top of the chassis and then thread the whole lot through the rear. Then take the swivel housing from the front to back, reconnect your hook and off you go.... but with somewhere in the region of 60m of cable it was often easier to do this Thumbs Up
