Finally got around to putting the roof back together and with two layers of sound deadening and two layers of closed cell foam it should be a lot quieter Mr. Green
8 square mtrs of this

Gives total coverage twice over the top of the sound deadening.

Also added in another courtesy light for the middle row while everything was out

And all beck together looking standard apart from the extra light

I might look out for a black headlining next Mr. Green
Thanks for looking Thumbs Up
Ray

Ray, was there enough gap under the headlining to fit in all the layers without making an adjustments to the headlining itself? I.e. You could take it off, put in the deadening and replace? Monsieur Le Grenadier

I do keep looking at drl bumpers but can't decide if I want round or rectangle lights Laughing I suppose as its a defender it should be more about use and purpose but I like asthetics too and my symmetry ocd is throwing in a curve ball with the other lights on the front being round Rolling with laughter

With you on this one. I think the best resolution (to have round lights but without them looking too small on the bumper) is to have two pairs. Very smart...... Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Hi, the sound deadening was no problem but I got 7mm closed cell foam and with two layers it's quite tight to get the roof lining back on. I'd recommend getting 5mm closed cell foam and putting one layer over the whole roof and the second layer just on the flat part of the roof but not on the curves at the edge then everything should go back easily. Ray

That is a really good job! Thumbs Up I am having the dealership install the third courtesy light as they are sorting out a roof problem under warranty also installing some roof insulation but nothing like the job you are doing! That is top notch! Well done!

Thank you Thumbs Up I think the third light will make a big difference during winter as it always seemed really dark in the middle row.

@jimb1978 as soon as I get a decent drive in I'll post up if it's made a difference Thumbs Up Ray

The "third light" should have come standard. Most passangers are in the middle....concepts like getting into the vehicle or finding something seem to have been lost on the designers.

When I put the third light in I changed all three courtesy light bulbs to LEDs, I've just been out now it's dark outside and can honestly say it's transformed!!! No more scrabbling around in the dark to find things. It's so much lighter in the whole car, well worth doing Mr. Green Ray

Looking good. How much difference has all the soundproofing work in the rear made?

When I did the bottom half (still some bits to do here and there) it made a big difference, you can have normal conversations with passengers at motorway speeds and even hear the radio Shocked it's been warm round here since I've finished the top half so have been driving around with the windows open so obviously can't comment yet but I should be doing some motorway miles over the next week so I'll post up if it's improved more at the end of next week Thumbs Up Ray

Now that's a nice looking motor! Thumbs Up are you going for a color change or a freshen up with the respray?

Thank you Embarassed it's having a respray in the same colour to tidy it up. It's been painted in areas poorly before I got it so they need doing and the rear door is dented so I'm going to replace that and probably replace the other doors with puma ones because there are a couple of poor bits here and there and I think the puma doors are sturdier, also I've read that they are galved from new so should last the car out. Ray

Next job on the list. I got fed up of un-sticking the turbo actuator and I'm not sure if it's in my head or not but it feels a bit flat going up hills so I'll start with a new turbo Mr. Green just a standard one as I'm not after big power.

Just need to order a new oil feed pipe and new oil so as not to junk the new turbo when fitting so it'll go on in the next couple of weeks. Ray
