Assuming RR is Rolls Royce then yes, I've read some bad reports on them too. That really is a case of "They don't make 'em like the used to", as super reliability was one of the things that made RR so famous. The original engineers would not be pleased.

So I have a really hard time swallowing the claim that all cars have problems to the same degree.......

You are 100% correct - the only reason why the 70-series Landcruiser (and in the past, the 40, 55, 80) are so popular is because the Defender is so unreliable. In all areas, the Land Rover beats it, except reliabilty (and maybe engine power) but when your business or safety depends on a dependable vehicle, you can't take too many risks.

It's kind of telling that not long ago I saw someone asking which vehicle to use for an expedition, and someone responded with "Toyota" ... on a LR forum! I don't think the answer is 100% true as there have been loads of magnificent expeditions i in LRs, but it is kind of telling.

Well,

JDPower study shown that LR (Defenders not included) is far away from Toyota in overall quality, dependability and Greennish isues. But LR is better in Overall Performance and Design.

So, we have a pretty nice car when its work... Evil or Very Mad

It's a pity JD Power doesn't include the Defender. Based on everything I've heard, it is by far the most dependable of the LR range.

Unfortunately, the JD Power study include only the cars sell in USA were Defenders are not allowed. Eduardo

Hi

I have a new Defender 110 XS double cab that is less than a week old and so far only 2 days in the garage !

Problems

1. Diesel pipe/sensor damaged resulting in half a tank of fuel lasting for 50 miles ! I put more fuel in to get back to the dealer and left a diesel slick on the A303 !
2. Numerous areas of damage on the bodywork - being fixed soon. During the fuel leak resolution the dealer managed to damage the front n/s wing and uncover an are on the back that had not been painted !
3. Central locking locking itself again in about a second ! This seems to have cleared for the present.
4. Water in the footwells - needs new seals but they are on backorder.

My dealer has been very supportive and the vehicle runs like a dream now the fuel leak has been sorted !

The problems I have had so far are nothing compared to my last car, a Porsche Cayman ! If you think Land Rovers have problems try Porsche !
