It's payload is way below the 1000kg requirement due to its 2.8t empty weight.
Put 5 big lads in there and you can only carry fresh air in the back!

I can't see there being much of a UK market for a £50k+ pick up that doesn't have the commercial benefits of VAT relief, Capital write down and personal van BIK ?

It feels like they have misjudged the UK market but their defence appears to be 'it is a world vehicle' - aka, the fact it doesn't meet HMRC requirements for a Commercial vehicle is too bad and we'll just sell the vehicle in less stringent countries.

there is a market for this, big machine gun on the roof, 20 army guys on the bed with machine guns, kids hanging off those alpine roof rails....... in war torn Africa.

sometimes the customer creates their own market.

760kg payload, assume an average 80kg for say 4 adults that’s 320kg, so remaining payload is 440kg, so it’s useful for a trip to B&Q to lay approx 10 paving stones or to take 12 small bales of hay to Tasmin’s Pony.

I’ll stick with my trusted MY10 130 2.4l at least it can carry some weight. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

different markets have different demands... if you look at the payload of most US or N.American trucks they are way lower than you'd expect.

The UK (and EU??) is oddball because we have tax breaks around commercial vehicles that must haul 'x' amount of payload. But the World is far bigger than the Irish Sea to the North Sea..... and it is naive to think otherwise.

For the EU markets also bear in mind there is a 3500kg gap on MAM/Gross Vehicle Weight. Not just on vehicles, but your driving licence too.

All you have to do is do the match to see it can be a struggle to have a vehicle of 'x' size, 'y' spec and still have 'z' payload and remain =<3500kg.

Again other markets this is not an issue or a consideration.

As for your 130. An awesome vehicle with no roll over protection, very low spec, poor performance and somewhat rustic to drive at best.

NA version of the SW type does, I believe, in which case I'm sure this will too.

I wonder if it can be uprated to a higher MAM.

The recent large price rise in the U.K. has taken my configuration (basic 5 seat utility with the minimum options) close to £70,000

That's an increase of around £9,000

The cheapest 2-seat Grenadier with no options at all is now £65,000

Sadly that means l am out, l just can't justify (or afford) £70,000 particularly as l can't claim the cost through my company due to the status of the vehicle with HMRC
