Try replacing the stalk. Not too expensive or hard to do. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I know it sounds weird, but have you got anything 'plugged in' to the cigarette lighter?

The reason I ask, is that my wipers were behaving very strangely last Sunday.

They were switched off at the stalk, but were stuck 'on' at normal speed. Moving the stalk to high speed worked, and they sped up, but both off and intermittent (at the stalk) resulted in the wipers being 'on'.

I was charging my son's ipad via the cigarette lighter socket at the time. Once I removed the charger from there, it all went back to normal. I was so surprised by this, I pulled over and rechecked it all. And yes, it was entirely repeatable.

Whether this is just a feature of the electronics, or perhaps the earth on my wiper system is not perfect and is somehow earthing via the lighter socket... I've not yet checked.

Hope that may be of help!

mine's a 2014 Puma, so may or may not be the same!

Almost certainly this, I'd say. Darren

That is an interesting fault! Just checked and nothing plugged in so going to get a stalk ordered and swap that out and see what happens.

Cheers

Was it a Britpart park switch?

It is possible that the new park switch has also failed, or that the grease in the motor gearbox is so gungy that it has caused the new park switch to stick.

Nah not bridpart luckily. Wonder if its worth trying the stalk first as that seems alot easier to replace then pulling the wiper motor or doing the switch again!

Plot thickens... fitted a new wiper stalk no difference so can't be that.

However have noticed that wipers do stop and operate properly when the ignition is on just not when the engine running. Not sure what that could mean??

After some thought think I'm going to try a new motor and see what happens. Don't want to open the dash up again and not have one ready.

Has anyone got any recommendations on what repair kit to get? I may as well swap it all out I think.
