grease nipples
By the way - I found that the nipples at the diff end of the prop shafts are not reachable by the standard grease gun head. It's diameter will not fit between the knuckles no matter how you turn the UJ.
I bought one of those little hand held grease guns with the plunger where there is no head as such but just a cup end that you have to press hard up against the nipple.
Problem is you really need to press hard to force any grease in.
Not sure what type the workshop use to access them.

No std gun will reach the bloody nipples. And it is right: dealers don`t bother at all. There are two ways a) reduce the diametre by grinding it or b) get a long sort of needle to plug in. With the former you will need help anyway. Puma 110" SW

How to grease your nipples without getting covered in the stuff, this is using a standard grease gun to!

1. Jack the front of vehicle (both wheels)
2. Put the low range lever in neutral
3. Turn the front prop to get the perfect grease gun angle
4. Grease all 3 nipples on the front prop
5. Drop the vehicle and do the same with the rear

Hope this helps, it has worked perfectly for me in the past! Thumbs Up

Just got mine back from the dealer with a new front prop because of a missing grease nipple. Boy are the grease nipples difficult to get the gun on, I'm not sure they are oriented quite right. Does anyone know what type of fitting they are, screw-in or drive-in, I might give them a tweek myself. Also, the new prop doesn't have a nipple for the sliding joint, is it now greased for life, or something else LR have forgot to fit?

Mine was vibrating terribly on the front. Just phoned the dealership and asked them to check and they can confirm that the front nipple is missing. Thanks Eduardo. They were a bit shocked that i had access to the info and led them in the right direction. Land Rover's don't leak oil, they simply mark their territory!

No problems except step 4.... where's the 3rd nipple! Asked the dealer and they said that the new prop shafts dont have one for the splines! Can't see where one would be missing either.

Not sure! My 2007 model has 3 nipples per shaft, one for each UJ and one on the shaft for the sliding joint.

Also here in the barbaric Italy some models seems to mount "greased to life" prop, so no nipple for the shaft ... not the black policeman Very Happy
We were wondering about the meaning of the word "life" in LR engineer's mind ... how long should it last ?

Hi Paul ... the suggested grease for props and joints is a Lithium based grade NLGI 2 grease.
It would be better if you find the EP (Extreme Pressure) one

I usually use John Deere Premium Plus ... but only because a friend of mine works for the Deer Very Happy and we usually exchange a pint for a pint Laughing
