2nd row passenger windows

This has been brought up on other fora before, but i though now perhaps some might have new experiences/solutions.

The wind-down windows on the second row of the 110 TdCi are a bit limp and after a few shuts of the doors they fall down a bit to end up leaving an inch gap between top of the glass and the top of the door. Clearly a theft hazard.

We mentioned it to the dealers ages ago when the 110 was in for something and they had a look and said that nothing could be done. I wouldn't be surprised if they had just spun me a yarn, but can't be bothered to pursue it.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I know others have the same experience. I've not had the door cards off to investigate and don't want to employ bungee cord or anything. Any ideas?

Yup - have the same problem. Usually I hear it whistling behind me and reach round to shut them back up.

I couldn't figure out a solution. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
+ New Defender 110 First Edition

forgot to mention it to dealer, it is for next time, hope they can find a fix.

I blamed the kids before i realised they hadnt been in the car for a week. I am hoping to fit electric windows that work on the winder mechanism to solve this problem and stop the kids leaving them open. 130 crew cab

You want to try it over several hundred kilometres of dirt track

My old Tdi does the same.

You can try repositioning the winder handle so that when the window is closed the handle is in a position that it won't vibrate downwards and start opening the window (hope that makes sense). I've done this on my Tdi and it helped a bit, the Puma's handles are both located this way already. Ideally though there needs to be some tightening of the window regulator mechanism. 110 2.4TDCi

Is that possible? If we take the door cards off, can I tighten the mechanism? I had already thought to reposition the handle - seems like an obvious starting point although I assumed the weight of the handle was insignificant relative to the weight of the glass. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Our stealers claimed there was nothing to tighten any more in the mechanism to enable the window to stay up. They said it was all tight enough.

By way of agricultural engineering solution to the problem i'm thinking of drilling a small hole in the winder arm and a small hole somewhere on the door card. Getting some kind of elastic/bungee and hooking it between the two holes, thereby keeping the arm tight in it's most closed position. Passengers/nippers can then unhook to open if need be.

If any of your dealers do manage to find a solution do let me know.

This has been standard issue since Land Rover introduced wind up windows.The ones on my Puma Tdci are no where near as bad my tdi. Granted the tdi is now 17 years old now. You get used to checking that they are closed when you open and close the doors. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Same here. Had this issue on my previous two Defenders as well. I just check the windows every time I open the rear doors. 2007 Defender 110
