Cap flap on a puma
Just wondering if anyone has ever fitted a cat flap on a puma?

It’s a lift up tailgate on a hard top, usually more associated with series landrovers.
Don’t see any reason why you couldn’t fit one, finding one complete with lock, hinges and handle and no rust in the frame may prove difficult tho

I looked into this last year. Had I not sold my 200 tdi CSW 110 to a forum member on here I would have gone ahead. I worked out I needed a series 2/3 cat flap complete and a tailgate from a 90/110 pickup. The tailgate could be fitted with side hinges or by welding the brackets to the rear crossmember it could fold as intended.

I quite liked the idea of loading via the catflap (upper half of the door if you like) and it meant larger items could be moved in and out without the side hung door getting in the way.

Looks like the hinges are mounted inside the truck though, this price looks promising looking at the cost of the single flap on their own.

I have one put by just in case I ever decide to convert my DC to a USW. No reason why it won't fit, but you would have to fit the fixed part of the hinges in the rear of the roof (and these are not easy to find (and they are handed)).

If I do ever use it I will deskin it, galvanise the steel parts, and reskin without the window.

If you think the hinges are hard to find for a series 2/3 try a series one!!! I had to buy a whole hard top to get the flap, hinges (different to S2/3) and the stays. Nightmare Rolling with laughter

Does the cat flap stay in the open position un aided? (edit, i see there are gas struts )

With dogs and the set up i have, this is looking to be a great idea

If i fit to the USW, then security will have to be beefed up as the tailgate doesn't have a lock, deadlocks on the sides should solve that and rely on another to lock the cat flap into the tailgate.

12v deadlock aren't hugely expensive if i could get them to work off the central locking.

Hi Badger,

The Series type cat flaps didn't use gas struts.
They had two hinged rods on the flap, with forked ends that slotted onto threaded pins on the hard top with round knurled hand nuts to tighten them up.
Simple and effective, but not as convenient as gas struts.

Shame I didn't know you needed one, I think I have two (complete with 86"/88" hardtops, one of which is mint) in storage!

Looking into this a little more, is there a significant difference between a side opening and drop down tailgate?

This allows me to keep the door lock but i'm struggling to see if this is a standard part or someone has chopped the top of a door off Laughing

^^^ That's a cut-down door.

A proper side-hinged tailgate looks like a normal tailgate.
