I've always used a long arm rivet gun, they tend to jump a little less reducing the risk of scratches. Mine is just a cheap one from an agricultural engineers but its survived 5 years and going strong. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Recently bought the Clarke (Machine Mart) Lazy Tongs one https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cht132-lazy-tongs-riveter/. Not sure if it is any different from the Draper - may well come out of the same factory with a different paint job. Did what I needed it for, but to be honest that has been only 4 rivets so far That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not ... oh! That is a dent!

Does it have to be lazy tongs? I bought an air riveter from Lidl or Aldi, parkside I think and it’s lasted really well and I’ve not scrawked any paintwork with it yet

No, I needed it for the Nak post 2002 v2 gas strut for the rear door. Job now completed, but I thought the lazy tongs coped better with bigger rivets.
I don't have a compressor so the air riveters are no good for me. How do the double handed ones compare to the lazy tongs? |

I'd used lazy tongs quite a bit at work, and bought myself a set of two handed ones.
For most things, I find the two handed ones much better. The limitation is that the really do need two hands. This is the one I've got but I'm sure I paid about half of what it's going for now: https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/hand-tools...EN5692060K It's good. |
