That Fiat is interesting. It looks like the designers were given a childs' drawing of a Land Rover and told to build it. Darren

Looks more like they took the Land Rover design and modernised it like Rover should have done. If they had then we might have seen the Defender continuing like the G-Wagen is.

It appears to be a steel monocoque body. And has an interior much more like it was designed to accommodate human beings.

For the 1970's it would have been pretty modern, I mean compare the styling to the Land Rover Series 3 which would have been the current Land Rover at the time and that was still using late 50's styling - all Land Rover ever did to update the styling was fit a different grille and windscreen - 10 years later! Looks like compared to the series 3 the engines were pretty evenly matched, and the diesel can't have been any worse than the Rover one - because frankly what is?!

There was also a Renault version;

I love my Defender, but then like most of us I accept its problems. We're really not in a position to cast aspersions on other manufacturers 4x4s. For all we know the Fiat might actually keep the rain out and have a usable heater. Laughing

Oooohhh!

You’re a bad man Dutch Guy... I know how to get to Genk as we have an office in Bree - now, how hard would it be to go on a ‘business trip’ and end up coming home with a Lightweight...

Be interesting to see what they sell at - interesting auction, thank you for sharing!

Perhaps we should cross post to the other discussion how much you can buy for GBP 500, in some cases an entire series ii Rolling with laughter
