defender cental locking
Hi I have got a 53 reg defender td5 the central locking on the fob has stopped working
I have noticed the interior lights now only come on with the doors if the ignition is on, this happened at the same time
I have checked all the fuses
any ideas ?? Smile Smile

if the indicators don't flash on unlocking then the fob battery is low and needs replaced. If its the interior lights not working then that suggests a different fault, perhaps with one of the door switches? On a 90 SW (you don't say whether yours is 90/11//130 or what body style) all the doors operate both lights by default, they stay on for 10 seconds after closing or dim as soon as you turn on the ignition. Mark S

Are you sure you didn't miss a fuse? Your symptoms sound very like a blown alarm supply fuse. Re-check fuses 6 (15A) and 7 (20A) in the under seat fuse box.

Also does the central locking operate using the drivers door lock?

thanks didnt know there were fuses under seat and no the central locking doesnt work with the key
I will check it out over weekend

If it is indeed the fuse (very likely) that has blown it may well be that one of the wires to the one of the central locking actuators has chafed and shorted, usually in the section of loom from the pillar to the door. After replacing the fuse you probably will either find it will blow again when locking/unlocking the doors or one door will not lock from the remote.

Had roughly the same symptoms with mine when I first got it ended up buying an alarm unit before realising I'd overlooked a fuse Rolling Eyes

Thank all for you help especially fifth horseman
I have got defender back on road today and passed mot with no advisories
Found the blown 20 amp fuse under drivers seat Now central locking and alarm work ok
So now the Landy can be used for my shooting and will be going out first thing in morning

I know this is an old post, but thanks to it i resolved my problem Thumbs Up .
This morning my TD5 had the above symptoms, i looked at all the fuses under the dash but could find nothing wrong! however, due to this post i learned that there were more central locking fuses under the drivers seat. New 20amp fuse installed and all is fixed, thanks again!

Just as a reminder, if the fuse has blown, after replacing it check that ALL the doors lock/unlock correctly.

The usual reason for the fuse blowing, as previously stated is that the insulation on the wires to one of the actuators has cracked causing a short inside the flexible tube between the pillar and door. If not fixed the fault will recur or the wires will break leaving the affected door unlocked.

The grade of wire used by LR for this section of the wiring loom seems to be unsuitable for the purpose (not able to withstand being repeatedly flexed over a period of time). When I had this fault I replaced the looms with ones I made myself, using high spec extra-flexible wire (spare I had left over from making an engine loom for a friend.).
