Rear Prop etc
So the joys of maintaining a 30yr old car that’s not always been loved!

Purchased knowing the handbrake wasn’t working!

Had to cut the prop shaft bolts as Just spinning in the flange, so hand brake removed, new flange and seal and new expander unit and it now works, but....

Prop shaft is seized and bolts are spinning at the rear diff so I’ll cut them off and put in a new prop. I will also do the diff oil, flange and seal at the same time as there is a small leak.

Just wondering what’s next... new axle!

Any advice on anything else to do whilst the prop is off and doing the diff flange? Defender 90 200tdi

So rear prop off and flange.

The pinion seal came off in about 100 pieces and not all is out. It seems there is an inner metal ring that the seal is wedged between and the outer case.

Any recommendations or is it the case that I’ve just got to sit and pick it all out with something like a dentists pick? Defender 90 200tdi

Maybe the mud shield possibly. Regardless make sure the diff inner surfaces to pinion seal doesn’t get damaged. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Thanks, I think the original seal has perished and it apparently has an inner metal insert to hold shape, this is still present with original rubber. Looks like the original seal and it’s a 1989 90! So not surprised it’s perished Defender 90 200tdi

Yes, it's getting on a bit. Laughing
It should clean up okay if it's been oily for a long time, soaking it in more diff oil for a few days may help as well. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Will check it for a rust lip, etc once it’s out. I think I just need a small claw hammer or seal puller to get it Defender 90 200tdi
