Germany 1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Alpine White
The old sensor did not have the O ring but the new one does. I tried it with and without and it didn't make a difference. I think the shim could be significant, but also the sensor itself. Could have been bad out of the box. When I put a multi meter on it and test for AC volts, I only get about .6 volts while cranking the engine. The book says its should be 2 or 3 volts. Who makes a good brand of CKP that will not cost 150 pounds?

I’ll agree with that had a few cheap sensors and MAF junk brand new out of the box. You’d be better with a mid max on your DVOM, you won’t really see much without an oscilloscope though it’s too quick a rate to pick up a flaw really. The shim is a funny old thing brought out to cure intermittent faults still see ones that have never had it and run fine. More FPR leaks the ruin the wiring to the sensor (which is shielded cable). Try maybe an Intermotor branded one.

I have an old fluke 77 and I don't think it is capable of min/max. I wouldn't mind picking up an O scope though. Haven't used one in 25 years but used to use them everyday when I was an electronics tech. I will look at the intermotor brand.
