i am looking to change phones to a rugged unlocked android.

the spec of the unlocked phone says:

Network:

It relates to the phone and not the coverage for the area.

Some ' rugged ' or tough phones come from China and although there's nothing wrong with them, to keep costs down they will ship with older generation hardware which aren't neccessarily compatible with our current network providers.

With the specs he posted, he should be fine

It's heavy and large ( i've laways had Sony Z3's and 5's compact versions ) so i'm getting used to that.

Built like a tank, feels solid. Buttons can be a pain for SoS as you keep pressing it, so dont allocate a number to it unless you really need to as i guarentee you'll be dialing your contact all the time! I did find a app called button mapper which allows you to remap any button to do something else, so my SoS button now turns on the flashlight after 5 seconds of pressing...much easier Wink Other than that you can disable the app in the options menu.

Fingerprint scanner is a abit hit n miss...i found you press the home key as your trying to get the scanner to read your fingerprint which is ok to open the phone but if you're using an app ( like a banking app ) then it becomes frustrating. I tend not to use it now.

Battery, seems good, i charge my phone everynight and i finish the day with 60% with maybe 20 calls, email checks and a few messages. I rarely use apps unless they're banking, weather or amazon...no games or whatsapp/facebook stuff.

no bloatware onboard, simple windows 7 and a small toolbox app, runs nice n fast as well.

As it was a new phone it took an hour or so to connect to 4g out of the box but since then no problems. Voice is clear on the other end, speakers are LOUD! but not really good for music unless they're quiet.

If you're moving an sd card across from another phone, remove your important stuff from it first as it will format the card to get it to work in this phone ( android 7 ) then mark the card as a movable storage when formatting and after that, you can put your stuff back on the card with no issues.

Overall good phone, solidily built, does exactly what i want it to do as in it's tough and i'm not wrapping it up in cases to keep the crap out ( which never worked with the sonys )

Cheers

thank you very informative, esp ref speaker/volume as i had read they werent so good

did you buy it yourself, and if so would you buy another?

other phone i am considering is the Doogee S60 which from what i can make out is pretty much the same phone less battery size although its £60 more. Cheers

I bought it myself and yes i'd buy another. I'm considering buying one to keep in the Landy as the Zello and PTT button is quite frankly brilliant ( Zello is a walkie talkie app that doesn't use data connection to allow you to talk to another zello activated phone/tablet. Any phone can have it, this phone has a dedicated button which makes it great for use in wet weather, ie on dartmoor! )

I too, looked at the Doogee S60 ( wireless charging of a 5k + battery wont be quick! ), AGM A8, the CAT60 and the Blackview BV8000. The Cat was too much money for nothing extra other than a thermal camera which i've got along without for this length of time, so no need for one.

Tbh they all pretty much do the same thing, the Armor 2 pipped it for tests i'd seen online, twin SIM for abroad, fingerprint ( which ironically i dont now use! ), 6gb ram, 64gb storage ( as well as 128gb sd card to add ), 90minute fast charge from flat and a decent sized battery, works on pretty much any network worldwide but mostly i wanted the twin GPS & GLONASS chip it has as this will be with me when we're travelling.

oh and i liked the look of it Very Happy

The prices of them all are around the same, about £250 new. If you wrapped this up in any other top branded handset then you could add another £500 onto that with the specs these phones have.

There are reports of bad ones being sold, but that happens in any market, i've had 2 Sony Z5's sent back due to bad microphones and i wouldn't buy another top branded phone, my line of work makes this phone work for me.

Whichever one you choose it'll do the job, but i can vouch for this one and say it works very well for me. Thumbs Up

:EDIT: I didn't cover the Bluetooth..it all works well with voice and music and it's got NFC chucked in for when you wander around Currys/PC world and play Metallica at full whack on their systems on display Laughing
