True to his word, today Richard and his brother Alan gave the newly rebuilt diesel engine its longest road-run yet.
All the way from the balmy estuarine resort of Maldon to the frozen wastes of north Essex! They even trusted me to have a little drive in it, knowing I am a long-term 2lt diesel enthusiast. I stored this vehicle in my barn several years ago, but since then the brothers have done an excellent job of bringing it back to peak condition. This being a Defender forum, I felt obliged to park my 2.5 petrol Defender next to it. Click image to enlarge |

Thanks for the hospitality this morning Charles and your expert eye. This has been a very long road to the finishing line,so thanks for your support over the years. You mentioned storing the Fire Engine, this from a very cold New Years Eve in 2008.......

Indeed Mr C... Your 90 in light/mid grey is very appealing. Are the wing tops original 1991 or a later addition? Working towards Carry on camping! |

Well it was built in December 1990 (1991 model year) in the new Pennine Grey but the factory kept it for nearly a year un-registered. What they did with it during that 11 months is unknown but I suspect it may have been used for decal trials, as the side decals are for 1992 model year, but are not to production standard. (There are no cut-outs around the door handles). I have no idea if the wing-top chequerplate was added at the same time! (Apologies for the hi-jack Richard. ) |

Believe it or not that's been the target event ever since we brought it back in 2008, so with luck we will be on the beach! 2010 XS USW 1957 Series One 88 diesel 1958 Series One 88 4x2 |
