Metal gasket + RTV?
Hi all,

The pipe from the oil filter to the sump on my TD5 is leaking badly at the sump end. I have drained the oil and removed the metal pipe. I really dont want to do this twice so should I used RTV and the metal gaskets or just go with the standard metal gaskets and torque to spec? I Think it has been overtightened but does not appear warped when checked with a straight edge.

could you clarify what tube nut and olive means? On both of the TD5 engines I have there were gaskets on the upper and lower connections.

I just had a check of the diagram and it needs two of these - LRJ100000

I will try with just the fresh gaskets and clean mating surfaces torqued to spec (10nm). If that fails I will drain the oil again and try my luck with RTV.

Thanks

Yep - I think I disconnected the tube when doing the rear main oil seal as I had to drop the sump so hopefully a new gasket will sort it. It was leaking incredibly badly!

All done - gaskets six quid from the stealer. Torque is 10nm which does not seem all that much but no leaks so far. Cleaned up the mating surfaces on a flat steel table with some p1000 sandpaper first.
