I backed the winner on the Grand National
I had a tenner on One for Arthur at 14/1. Thumbs Up

The Grand National it’s the only time I bet on the horses and in all my years I have never won anything, usually my horse falls at the first fence Laughing . But today I fancied One for Arthur, mainly because my late dad was called Arthur and he loved the Grand National.
So it’s a glass raised to my late dad tonight. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

We never bother with the horses so never even looked at the runners......which is a shi**er as my Mrs late Dad was Arthur and she would definitely have put some money on it......c'est la vie

Let’s hear it for the Arthurs: Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

My late dad would have been so chuffed to have won £140.00, he died many years ago and that amount of money would have been an absolute fortune for him, and I know god bless him he would have spent that winning bet on his family, probably a good holiday or possibly on a good second hand car not for himself as he was always happy on his bike but for me and my mum. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

All Arthur's here too, apart from me thank goodness LOL. A few Marthas too I suspect. Wink

I didn't bet today because as an owner of horses I consider that race cruel.

I really do agree with your thoughts as I am a horse owner as well.

Not for horse racing though and definitely not for steeplechasing in the general rule.

I also thought for many a year the Grand National was cruel, but due to me (I am not any one special in this, just gave my thoughts on the race to the horse racing fraternity) as did many other horse owners).
Owing to the many peoples thoughts including the general public the Grand National has become so much better, in fact this year not one horse has been injured to a degree that it has to have been put down. (It is the jockeys who pull them up to soon or try and cut the fences that cause the horses to fall)

To prove a point when I was younger Beeches brook now known as the chair was six foot high and caused many a horses downfall, Now because of horse owners complaining it is down to 4 foot 10 inches and horses can do that height easy when trained.

The fences though they look big are mainly vegetation or in equestrian terms are not threatening to a horse, who believe me enjoy jumping them.

I have a three year old mare and a five year old stallion and as you will know no matter how high your paddock fences are the stallion will jump them if he knows the mare is in her heat cycles, so much so I sometimes move my male to another stable when the mare is in season.

However I do know that many of the horses who race really do enjoy it. It is so much better for the equine world now with this type of race, so I am happy to have a bet on what is the best horse race in the world so much better now that the horses are a lot safer racing in it. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
