I have started using 2mm Silent coat with a 8mm soft cell on top.
Done most of bottom part of car and front doors, Not done roof yet... Easy to work with, relatively cheap as goes a long way I think a box of 2mm is around £75 soft cell I bought off the bay

I've done similar to Stacey007.
2mm silent coat in front footwells trying to cover as much of the lower bulkhead as possible, transmission tunnel and all over seat boxes (actually sealing in the covers - I appreciate i'll have to  about with this as and when I need to get in there). I've then popped some camping mat followed by the standard matting on top.
The doors I did mainly with offcuts and not 100% coverage (as above, nice thud now). I've also got quite a grunty exhaust. The back of mine was pretty exposed, so I have ply-lined the sides with camping mat between and acoustic material on top. I've wanged silent coat on the wheel arches and across the bed where possible. This has proved very effective. My roof is still all exposed, so will sort that next along with some kind of matting for the wheel arch/bench areas to sit on top of the silent coat. The majority of noice now comes in through what I imagine is the top of the front bulkhead (directly from engine bay). So, also on this every-growing list is an engine bay acoustic cover/blanket (although not heard they make much difference - no pun intended). I think I also need to adjust my doors slightly. Quite a bit of noise coming through where the rubbers should be stopping it (I did recently replace but with cheap rubbers). I can now have a conversation with somebody without shouting. I should also say that my engine etc. is tweaked slightly so it's just noisier than most anyway. I like to hear a bit of a hum though. I also think I have a nearside wheel bearing giving me some unwanted noise at times...and I have stupid big knobbly tyres that generate lots of droning (new AT tyres also on the list) TD5 Defender 90 Discovery 3 HSE |

Being 2mm thick does it really stop sound and vibrations that well? May try it if it does |

Silent coat is a deadener, it will stop panel resonance and vibration but will do very little for blocking sound. For that you need the thick closed cell foam as shown

The picture above, with the D ring. The black stuff is closed cell foam/mat. I used old camping mats - not sure if its 100% the same stuff. TD5 Defender 90

camping mat is similar. The main difference being that it isn't self adhesive and the rolls aren't as wide 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Sorry just seen this again... The silent coat is 2mm thick a sort of metal front (seen on the inside of doors picture) and a sticky back.. Does it work.... Watch this. Then I put the soft cell foam on top, 8mm thick just a spongy foam that has a sticky back. how much did it take you to do the whole thing?
does anyone also know how much you'd need to fill a whole 90 roof, and how thick can you make it under the headlining? |

Hello
So far I've done Passenger footwell Drivers footwell Rear Footwell Seat box and battery box rear boot and up the sides to windows Both front doors. Mines a 110 SW I still have some left. out of 2 bulk box's.. I need to do rear doors, backdoor, roof. Unsure on roof though...don't fancy doing the headlining on my own. I would guess 3 Bulk box's to do my 110SW if I do the roof.. Fairly cheap mod as you can do it yourself and quite easy. I bought a roller (like a decorators one to flatten the panels out) and some alloy silver tape to fill the joins (you can see this in my boot pic) OOh and there is lots of talk you don't need to completely cover an area for it to work... I've used the flashband fake lead stuff from toolstation, works pretty well especially on the bulkhead and it doesn't cut your hands to ribbons..! Also used camping mats on the roof with spray adhesive to good effect, best was 50 mm celotex on my Hicap pickup roof that was toasty warm!!
