United Kingdom 2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Corris Grey
Alternate puma fuel filter?
Hello, just a thought, but the standard Defender puma fuel filter is WJI500040, which says 5 micron.
The WJI500030 is the fuel filter for the 2002 to 2012 Range Rover TDV8, and i'm sure this says 2 micron on it.
They look basically identical.
Any ideas why they use a 5 micron filter as standard on the Defender?
Would the 2 micron filter go straight on? Possible drawbacks?
Thanks.

Personally, as a layman unless there is some reason why the standard filtration in inadequate I wouldn't change. I'd be worried about the the finer filter putting more stress on the fuel pump or restricting flow or something. That's unless you can find a technical expert to say it's fine to swap. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I fitted a second filter...
Have a look at the thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic48466.html Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

I did some homework on this a few months ago. From a few online sources I learned that all transit 2.4 /2.2 tdci filters are 2 microns (as it is common rail and uses very high fuel pressure) Whereas the di uses a 5 micron filter.

I fitted a genuine ford filter for the tdci - its a little bit longer than the rover branded version but in my view better. 1953 80"
