I would say you can't go far wrong with a BFGoodrich A/T but I'm sure there are others on here with experience of other brands

Personally, having seen how both generations perform (on other vehicles) compared to my tyres, I wouldn't be considering the BFGs at all. If you're not really going off road, the ST/Maxx might be a bit too aggressive. The AT3 would probably be more appropriate. I would have either over the BFG AT KO2. Edit: in fact, what I'd probably do is buy some of the take off Contis that seem to be everywhere. That's what I've been doing with the Michelins that I use. |

If you're not in a rush, it might be worth waiting until the new General Grabber AT3 is available in Defender sizes next year. They are claiming much improved snow performance amongst other things, which might be up your street. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Yesterday I had fitted BFG AT KO2's to my 110, so far the ride quality is good (for a Defender!), they aren't noisier and they look good...

As Bluest says.... Just need a bit of patience til the new Grabber AT3 will be available.
I would prefer those new Grabber AT3 as a very welcome alternative for the very praised BFG A/T on here. Each time I see the BFG A/T on a Defender it makes me think of a Jeep or of any other American truck or pick-up which invariably have those BFGs. Thanks for all the replies - I have previously used AT2s on my D3; they've lasted ages and have been great for everyday use. My Defender currently has General Grabbers but they're old, hard and partly worn but legal! Happy to take the advice to wait for the AT3s.

Well i'm glad I stumbled on this thread.
The noise of my biguns is starting to annoy me, drone drone droooone. I have Special Tracks on the front and Greenway Macho's on the back (already on when I bought the car). St Maxx all the way now. They are suprisingly quiet and I have not lost traction on anything yet (even 20ft of ice earlier today). 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Just removed my ST Maxx (under 4K miles) and fitted BFG AT KO2, initial thoughts are that they (the BFG's) are more to my liking. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Just didn't really get on with them. 
They have an excellent reputation and appeared to be competent in most situations but they weren't what I need at the current time so I decided to go back to the milder BFG AT. My LR use has changed greatly over the years and whereas 30-years ago I wanted the best off-road tyre that I could find it has now turned around and I want an excellent on-road tyre which will permit occasional off-road use. The ST Maxx is an aggressive AT whereas experience has shown me that the (milder) BFG AT is the right one for me and my current driving style. I hope that the KO2 is at least equal to the old tyre, if it is then we can't go far wrong! Anyone in the market for a set of five 265/75x16 Cooper ST Maxx on Anthracite Sawtooth's? ONE LIFE, GET IT! |
