Fuel pump noise
Hi all,

The fuel pump on my '04 Td5 has started making quite a loud whine all the time. It used to make this whine for approx 30 seconds then drop to a barely audible hum whilst running but now it's constant and doesn't sound healthy. The Defender runs and drives fine with no loss of performance so I don't think it's injector.

Fuel filter was replaced 3k ago.

Any ideas or fault finding suggestions?

With my TD5 it turned out to be the pump, which was changed recently and all was well. I believe it is air entering the system so worth checking that first, with pipe work, then look att he pump.

OK, found out how to purge the system and the pump is now stopping my after 20 seconds or so as it used to, see video 1.
The bit at the bottom of the fuel filter tightened a turn or so so perhaps air was getting in there??
Now not sure if the running noise is louder than it used to be, does this sound correct? Video 2.

if it does turn out to be the pump. I'd have the injector seals done at the same time as a replacement pump. When mine went it was full of black bits which was carbon from blow past from the copper injector seals. They could have caused another pump to fail if they had been left.

It might even be worth doing the injector seals anyway if they haven't been done for a while 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
