Canada

i have a contact that can check out any defender that i am interested in. Also i can get it inspected by a Land Rover dealer before i buy. I know people who import them to canada and it costs conciderably less than 50k pounds. usually by the time all is said and done its in the low twentys... and thats dollars not pounds.

Re: Just drooling...

The Canadian import laws are not quite as draconian as the US, but they're close! Canada has a rolling 15-year rule; ie. this year it's 1997, next year it'll be 1998, etc. versus 1986 full stop in America. The SII/III should be more than fine; assuming the registration & VIN on the chassis are matched & dated older than 1986.

Are the Canadians as Draconian about importing Defenders as the Yanks?

My brother is looking to move to Texas soon and take his S11 though it is now virtually an S111 after a major rebuild. So we have been looking into the business of what the US customs will allow in.

United Kingdom 2006 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Zambezi Silver

It appears that the US is 25 year rolling too, so in another 15 years they will be allowed TD5's Very Happy

Yes his motor was originally a 1961 'A' reg, though over the last 20 years in his ownership it has been re chassised and re-bodied numerous times due to heavy usage and the ravages of time, indeed other than the spirit and the radiator panel its virtually all been replaced into a S11/111 hybrid. but yes effectively it is a 1961.

United Kingdom 1999 Defender 90 Td5 HT Rioja Red

I looked into this a few years ago, as I was thinking about moving over and bringing my Td5 90 over.

In terms of getting vehicles over from the UK it wasn't generally too difficult once they're over 15 years old. The headlamp circuit would need modifying so that dipped beam came on with ignition and not just on the switch, but that's not too onerous.

Cars destined for Vancouver Island also needed to pass an emissions' test which wasn't required on the mainland. This was the case in 2011 anyway when I was looking at importing.

Dave Wong, the publican of the 6 Mile Pub in Victoria has/had a gorgeous rebuilt 110 onto a galvanised chassis that he bought from BLR in the UK. I understand though that BLR perhaps isn't in the business any more, though I could be mistaken.

Those looking to buy LHD in Europe could look for an older Td5 now from Spain; the dry climate (generally) means that there's little corrosion, and they don't value Defenders as much as other European countries.
