Pulling seal and CV needle bearing from sub axle how?
Internal seal needs replacing on front puma era stub axle.

Stuck behind bearing (which is in apparently good condition)

I have a new bearing also, so can damage the installed one if need be. Really don't want to scratch the stub axle internal faces.

How is it done without proper bearing pullers or spendy LRT's??

You shouldn't need specail tools. Support the stub with the bearing facing down but in a fashion so that there is room for the bearing to come out. Then, using a cranked drift (I have a very wee wrecking bar somewhere that I use for such events but the blade from an old large screwdriver bent at approx 30 deg' will suffice) knock the seal and bearing out as one.
Take your time and tap around in 45 degree increments rather than concentrating on one spot.

If your bearing happens to be the one that won't budge the same tool can be used to pass through the seal and act directly on the lower edge of the bearing (rollers out first for ease).

Good luck and take great care putting the new bearing in to ensure it goes in square right from the start Thumbs Up

Thanks guys.

LRTs don't exist as stocked inventory round here - and IMO are priced as if they were a kind of money laundering scheme. Managed to 3D print a nice tool to seat the internal swivel shaft seal though, pretty basic, a large socket wouldn't work as the hex interfered. (maybe a bihex would have worked?)

Anyway, I'll look into new stubs, one of them is a wee bit worn on the internal bearing bearing face, like it temporarily seized for some reason.. Bearing seems fine removed, bin it is however!

Will try pry bar with heat (nothing extreme), or bend one my mother's unused ever drivers after rounding and taping up the pointy end. Push both out as one, see what happens.

The seal replacement is because I found globs and globs of dark globby oil around the stake nut but bearing, yet the grease was still clean on the outer bearing.

Seal looks fine though, as does the old CV seal ring..

Weirder too that the flange still managed to seize itself well and truly to the CV splines. Wot a carry on it was removing that Evil or Very Mad Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

That being said, 3D printer failed here...

However, success!

I went for the remove the rollers/race first technique and then drift/caveman technique:

Cheers all, project back on schedule. Although it looks like I might need to print myself a tool to get the new seal in nicely Rolling Eyes Wink Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
