major sound then problems
About to get on the M4 we heard a loud noise and immediately the battery light came on... Then the steering wheel became very heavy... and then the brake pedal... Then major clatter from the engine

Put the family on a taxi and turned around going straight to the garage... It looks like something connected to the belt came off and it is lying at the bottom of the engine tub... Oh well...

Best

That looks like it... Thanks... Hopefully it won't be too expensive to fix.

so yes it was the belt tensioner which just sheared off... is this common? it's such an important piece, controlling vital parts like steering and brakes, that seems really badly engineered...

ordered the part from the factory and it should get here today.

thanks all for the help.
