Shall we say the defender that has lived a bit
Hi I have a 1990 90 and love reading of Defenders travelling the world however the furthest I have travelled is to the West Coast of Scotland. There is plenty of threads with defenders going to France and beyond but the Defenders seem to be a lot younger than my beloved Landy. Do we have any older Defenders pushing the corners of the envelope which will inspire me to brave the thought of a Defender road trip to the nether regions.

Not a Defender but I have driven my 1957 series one to the Czech Republic, Switzerland and the West Coast of Ireland! All great fun!

A mate has taken his and some mates 80" series ones to the Pyrenees, Italian alps and more recently Monte Carlo - just jump in a go - you do not need a brand new vehicle that has just been prepped by some expensive overland company.

Wales 2006 Defender 110 Td5 SW Alpine White
Hi, in 2013 I drove a 1983 110 down through France and Spain, before crossing into Morocco, then, the following year I took it on a winter Alps trip, I visited friends in Haute Nendaz in Switzerland, before crossing Mont Blanc to the French resort of Morzine for a week of snowboarding. It has been fitted with a 200tdi and a 1.22 transfer box, but is otherwise standard. Both trips have the fondest memories imaginable and the only advice I have is to give it a good service, then go and enjoy yourself. 2006 TD5110 station wagon

In 1995 Ken Wheelwright and I took his 1949 Tickford Station Wagon to the German Land Rover Club meeting near to the polish border. Great fun.

You also don't need 4wd to go off roading, and recovering yourself when you get stuck is a whole lot easier because you're less stuck Rolling with laughter

My longest and most remote overland trip was as a ten year old solo van with next to no useful spares or knowledge bought for £1500 off a Welsh bloke's driveway.

See also http://www.landcruisingadventure.com/ where they drive a fairly ancient 4x4. Can't quite remember what brand it was though... Razz

We did long distance trips (from Scotland!) to Pyrenees, Switzerland and France in our previous 1994 tdi 110 when it was 12,14 and 15 years old. All after it had passed the 100k mark. If you truck is well maintained and you take some basic spares there should be nothing holding you back!

Go for it.

Great blog and stunning pictures, she's well maintained always worried about oil leaks for some reason, when I got back from Scotland there were small pools of oil from the crank, transmission even after having them renewed some years ago but nothing since. And yes 😀 She still has oil in the donkey lol
