1 - Yes.
Looks like the barrels are the wrong length initially. There's an extra 'bit' on the back that takes a surprising amount of force to remove. The is a sprung pin that locks it onto the actual barrel part. This is for the front doors. Not done my rear door yet. 2 - I believe so, but mine never came with a locking filler! |

I want/need to do this also. Why not get a set of barrels that include also the ignition so you only have one key. Then follow one of the mods on here that glues the key into the fob and hey presto, you have one key/fob combined.

Not so easy on the older models I think. From memory it's a different type of barrel on the ignition. Ignition key certainly a lot longer than door keys!

Nope, my 2000MY has a aingle key and the ignition key dives right into the door locks and disappears but it locks and unlocks each time. Seems to go right through the barrel. The only separate key is the fuel cap. The fob mod with the key is an excelkent one to consider as well. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Thanks for the advice. At the mo I have a number of different keys, the ignition being the longest one. When I got the Defender I was given a host of random keys.
The ignition certainly seems to be a different profile to the door locks. 4RD RDS: Some of my locks could be opened with a spoon, could the reason your ignition key opens the doors be due to wear? |

Did it on a 96 300tdi all 3 doors and ignition without any problem, Manages to do ignition without have to take off upper dash trim, so if I can do it anyone can. Fuel filler cap locks different so did not bother with that. Jeff

When I got my 90, it came with 1 key for drivers door, 1 for ignition, 1 for rear and 1 for fuel cap. I ended up buying a set with new ignition barrel. However, after replacing the fronts, they could still be opened with a stone/penny/fingernail/anything lying around. Thinking I was just unlucky, I ordered another set, a different make from a different supplier. Same again.
So, in the end I removed the barrels from the doors, replaced them with a nut/bolt and plugged the hole with a cap. I rely solely on the central locking now. I saw it as too much of a security risk. TD5 Defender 90 Discovery 3 HSE |

Actually no, mine was German Gov't owned vehicle and when I bought it it came with everythng including the iriginal bill of sale and all keys. It even had the key for the centre cubby box latch (obviously never used) It only ever had the single key from hew and the locks are quite secure. No spoon, penny, finger nail opening going on with this one. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

my understanding was that you can get the combined ignition and door barrel set for an earlier version but you would have to change the door handles to the more modern version ones to accommodate the larger barrel. I want one key fob that does everything. Am I right?

I've fitted one on the drivers side, all went well.
When I took out the barrel first I thought I had been sent the wrong lock. But MIKER was right, you need to remove the "tail" and swap it over. I noticed before I swapped the barrel there seems to be a lot of extra rotation needed before the lock actuates. Looking at the design of the 2 parts this seems how it should be. Why has it been designed like this or am I overlooking something? The bit on the right fits hole down inside the other part. MC 84 you asked about wear and that is possible but I am pretty sure its not the case. The second set of keys I got with the 110 are brand new and never used. They work just as well as the used gnition key. Anyways glad you got it sorted. You aught to combine the remote with the key best 20 minute mod you can do.
