/\ I don't (or wouldn't) disagree with you.

but when someone sets out to steal a car, drives recklessly for a sustained period while being chased by police causing loads of criminal damage in the process and through cheer luck doesn't kill or seriously injure someone and then gets slapped with a £100 fine I'm not sure I can see that justice has been dealt in fair measure?

very sad for all involved.

I am sure many of us have been angered by the actions of other road users ... there is never any benefit in escalating it. One report suggested that the mazda driver gave him the finger, when perhaps if they were in the wrong a quick wave of apology would also have defused the situation.

Whilst obviously not the cause of the crash I was also thinking that the speed the car was approaching the junction on a slightly blind bend was excessive. A car had passed over the junction in front of them before the discovery but the dash cam suggests he accelerated from 54 to 57. This may of course just be the gps inaccuracy on the dash cam but the first car crossing would have caused me to slow.

It feels like a fairly tough, but appropriate sentence to me. I doubt he set out to do harm but a badly controlled temper and his and the poor families lives have been shattered. I am sure he will be regretting this moment of madness long after he is out of prison.

It was probably based on the fact this wasn't a moment of red mist, but he kept it going for at least twenty minutes after the initial incident
Also the fact he was picked up on dash cam by another driver laughing as he chased the Mazda

Whatever he got, two girls are still crippled for life

^^^^^ Exactly Bow down

He undertook the vehicle at the junction either waiting to turn right or going straight on then swung in front of it and hit another vehicle minding their own business crippling 2 innocent children but he could of killed the whole family - absolutely no excuse Rolling Eyes

2 years - probably in an open prison with TV in his room, etc but a lifetime of pain in a wheelchair for the girls - I've witnessed this kind of driving although not as bad but never given in to the red mist as I put the safety of me, my family and other road users first Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Was he driving for Land Rover at the time? What was his job?
If I were to give a potentially dangerous piece of equipment to an employee with behaviour / aggression issues then I would find the HSE in my office if their actions resulted in such significant injuries.(PUWER would apply - Provision and use of work equipment regulations) Why do we tolerate behaviour on the road that we would not tolerate in the work place.
If he was driving for LR then they should take some responsibility for providing the vehicle to someone who is unfit to operate it. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

It's very difficult for a company to cost effectively monitor behaviour on the road. If we get anyone call our company to report a driver they will be aware and it goes on their file.

.. and if as an employer you did do nothing their may be implications. Perhaps the driver had an exemplary record prior to this.

Sadly this doesn't seem to be the case with other companies. I have called a courier and also a transport company before to report appalling driving and in both cases they weren't bothered at all and in one case said I was probably the problem !!

Edit to add LR insurers have already had to make a payout and will now no doubt be asked for substantial damages also.

RFT I think a little harsh on Land Rover

We have 70 vans & 20 cars, I do not know how they all drive a lot I have never even seen & unless I was aware someone drives like a tosser - we do have tracker in all vehicles with driver behaviour monitoring so we do try - how can I be responsible for someone's driving Exclamation

Appreciate H &S etc but there is a point where an employer can only do so much Thumbs Up 2020 P300 HSE
