Nene Overland sell the Adventure Trailers - Chaser, which seem to be exactly what I'm looking for, a basic trailer to lug the camping gear and put bikes on top (not looking for the fully integrated overland trailer, at the moment). I'd ideally be looking for a second hand trailer, so will be keeping my eye out. I will be speaking with Nene but wondered if anyone had any independent experience?
 Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I have been looking at Sankey's as a cheaper option but have concerns over the Nato hitch, towing, getting trailer to sit level and the weight of the basic trailer. I've also looked at the Venter Trailers but these seem very expensive. Are there any other options for 'off-road' trailers? Thank you. I currently have a Venter leisure trailer for camping with, it has a bike rack for 2 bikes on top.
Not an 'off-road' as such, but with 14" wheels sits nicely behind the Landy and is water/dust proof. Bought 2nd hand a couple years ago. We're now looking out for a trailer tent to venture further afield with, and my preferred option would be the 3dog offroad trailer, as it does exactly what I'd want, and no more: http://www.3dogcamping.eu/en/offroad-trailer.php. But it's super expensive! I beleive they sell just the trailer on it's own too (which looks to me just like an off-road Brenderup). Could always add the tent at a later date. Looking out for second hand, but they don't come up often (missed one on here about a year ago). |

I had the same thoughts concerning the Nato hitch, especially with respect to insurances. Though I (also) do have a Nato hitch, I converted to the regular towbal and changed the tow arm to make the trailer sit level. The trailer is a M416 military trailer, with SPOA (spring over axle) and an adapted Series roof. You could look at an ifor Williams range, I missed out on a cracking one from a work for sale board...However this is similar in price / size to a sankey. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ifor-Williams-Un...Sw-YBXG5FQ Being perfectly they probably are one of the best trailer manufactures but this P6 / E model is toy town compared to the build on the sankey. However it will be easier to move around and also a normal towing bracket. Some of the prices of 'adventure' type trailers they seem to pluck a number out of thin air double it and add some more... Back to the sankey, the good things are Built like a tank Same track as Defender Same Wheel size Suit the 'look' cheap With a dixon drop plate you will get it level, I was worried about this. However I have managed to get it much better (the army Nato hitches were designed to fit on the x member under the door) as Army Landys don't have a spare its easier. The other option I need to get is a rear wheel holder that fits the wheel slightly higher, meaning the nato hitch is easier to get on and off. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231635851658?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT I have an Erde 'tip' trailer, similar to this link. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Erde-142-camping...SwcL5XN4tT Now for garden rubbish and local runs it great, light and easy to move but really is Toy town, tiny wheels and empty or full unless very heavy it just bounces behind over potholes etc. I've only towed the sankey 35 miles or so but its solid (and that was on the old knackered tyres). I can see it in the mirrors and the fun bit it you get one you can make it how you like plus the fun doing it. I've done things I've never thought I would with getting the sankey and refurbishing it. Could a normal tow hook be fitted to a sankey?? |

Just run the NATO hitch, like many people have done forever! It's the better option all round, far more secure than a 50mm ball.
