300tdi exhaust
Hi guys next problem,
Exhaust is starting to drop to bits, by how much I'm not sure, hopefully the cats ok ! is it a matter of going to Quik fit or National tyres/exhausts or is there a better option ?

Dave

Thanks guys, but being one of those people who shouldn't be allowed to use spanners I'll have to take it somewhere, perhaps not to far away.
But where ? Bow down

You could buy the new exhaust pieces online and take it to your local garage. I'm sure they'd be able to do it; at a cost of course. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Did 300tdi's have cats? I assumed not as early TD5's didn't...

I think so as I've seen down pipes with cats for sale, whether they were standard out the factory at some point I have no idea. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Mine is one of the last 300tdi and is not possessed of a catalyst however do be careful with the new pattern exhausts as I have found in my ownership of the car that 2 years is a very good life expectancy with moderate use for an exhaust. It's the seams and welds that don't seem to last. I suppose it is a matter of getting what you pay for and financially it's not too painful if you are doing it yourself it's just a pain having to consider an exhaust system a biannual service item. Oh and I don't find it any better if I have bought from paddocks or eurocarparts or the first time from kwik fit they are all about as bad as each other. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Hi Cheshire Dave, check out "Demand Engineering" in Ipswich: http://demandengineering.co.uk/. They make fantastic stainless steel exhausts, bespoke for all sorts of specialist vehicles, but they are Defender enthusiasts! I bought a system for my Defender 300Tdi, it's a work of art and has a lifetime warranty, they will fit them too, if you wish. You can have a standard system or any permutation of" specials", I just went for a relatively standard straight through system, mine was designed to be quiet, not noisy.

I'm assuming this has now been done,....any feedback.? but regarding 110's, on mine years ago the cat downpipe was swapped for a non cat type, and the centre box swapped for a s/s straight thro' So maintanence wise I now only have to worry about the rear section. At about £20 every 2 years its no big deal, but I have smothetred both ends of the box with vaseline. and it does seem to keep rust at bay/. i k now they rust from the inside out but having a straight thro' from front to rear box should help reduce the build up of moisture.

Hi yostumpy. You clearly know ago ideal more , and have more experience, than I do with Defender exhausts! Yes my new system has been fitted, straight through with one box, I asked for it to be quiete rather than noisy. I now barely hear the exhaust note over the din of the 300 Tdi engine. I have driven only 200 miles on the new system, so I have little to report, other than the work ma ship looks very good as does the stainless steel material.
