Hi all,
Just wanted to know If anyone is using these LED headlights? looking to upgrade but cant justify JW's. http://www.grp4x4.com/land-rover-defender-...ht-20.html I like the 4 LED lamp style that these have but don't really know any more about the LED upgrade as a whole. As far as I can understand with out a DRL they are literally plug and play. and they will increase my light emitted to the road. Seems like a fairly good price as well. A friend of mine bought a Light bar from them and it had condensation - they replaced it with a new version pretty much overnight so not worried about the company just want a honest review on the lamps them selves. Any opinions would be useful cheers.  |

I have never experienced them, but one thing that makes me a little wary is this statement:
Light output is measured in lumens, electrical power is watts. So they're saying that the lights are bright because they use a certain amount of electricity, which is not correct logic. They might be fine but you have no way of comparing them to any other light. The light output depends on the efficiency of the LED driver circuit, the efficiency of the LED and the efficiency of the optics. Most people will quote a lumens figure for the LED output, (raw, theoretical, calculated, or a few other names) and a second, lower, figure for the output of the whole assembly (actual, measured, and other names). Saying "this is good because it uses 28W" is like saying "my vehicle is great offroad because it uses twenty litres of diesel per hour". Edit: Another thing against them is you can get the well respected Trucklites for only another £11 from here: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic37882.html and the Trucklites have a higher IP rating. |

At the lower end of the price range you've also got the Britpart Lynx Eye ones, and at the JW Speaker end of the price range there are the Noldens too.

In case any one was interested the GRP 4x4 style lights as pictures are raw lumen 2610 full beam and 1770 low beam.
I still really like this style - anyone know the standard light strength from the defender units. |

An H4 bulb is 1650/1000lm (but, of course, that's not the full picture).

So raw dipped lumens is a little lower than the Noldens, and raw full beam is a little higher.
Then it's all down to the quality of the optics  |

Raw lumens is the calculated theoretical light output of a LED headlight.
Effective lumen output is a better measure of light output as it is the calculated raw lumen output minus theoretical losses. Measured lumen output is the most useful light output figure. The other figure you should be looking at is the IP rating. IP67 (IMO) is the minimum water protection whereas the best IP rating is IP69K Brendan |

Of course they might be great headlamps just without the premium price. Such things do exist.
I think it just helps to go in to anything with your eyes open. |

I have the GRP lights and I am extremely pleased with them. Have had them for about a year now and issue free. Lamp construction is very solid, no condensation issues and the light pattern is just perfect, which says a lot for a LED headlight as most (Even the premium brands) look like your pointing a flashligt at the ground.

Still looking around but to be honest I cant find anything I like the look of as much as these 4 spot GRP versions. |
