R380 gearbox fitting
Evening chaps.

I just replaced my clutch with a Vaelo H/D unit, new rear oil seal & bronze bush.
I have the gearbox on the engine with 3 of the studs at the top on by a few threads, but can't get the bell housing to close up at the bottom enough to get the a nut on the studs. It seems as if the shaft isn't lining up with the hole in the crank.
Iv'e tried turning the crank with a spanner as i'm tightening the bolts,(I have used some longer ones at the bottom to try to pull the thing together)to get the splines to line up.But no joy.
Is there any tips you guys can offer to get it to go together.
Cheers
Marc

Did you centre the driven plate correctly with a clutch aligning tool? Did you check the fit of the driven plate on the primary pinion shaft splines? Have you tried putting the box in gear and rotating the primary pinion shaft as you try to fit the box to the flywheel housing?

Thanks for the quick reply blackwolf.

I fitted the new clutch using a suitable sized piece of wood to aligne the clutch.
Is the primary pinion shaft the splined shaft on the gearbox???No...I did'nt check for fitting.
The gearbox is in neutral,I have tried turning the crank pully, but it hasn't pulled together.
Cheers
Marc

It's possible that the driven plate won't fit onto the PP shaft splines, this would cause your problem. It's also possible that the PP shaft is jammed hard enough against the clutch or flywheel to mean that when you turn the crankshaft you're actually turning the shaft as well, which is why I suggest putting it in gear and turning the gearbox shaft not the crankshaft.

If that doesn't do it I'd be inclined to pop it out again and check that everything is ok rather that use force. Sometimes a vigourous rattle of the box sorts it .

The primary pinion shaft is the shaft that sticks out of the front of the box into the clutch and carries - you've guessed it - the primary pinion at the back end inside the box (the PP is the gear that is in constant mesh with and drives the layshaft).

Well after 3 hours of pushing pulling & swearing,my new clutch is in. Very Happy
Thanks to all who replied with suggestions. Thumbs Up
BUT......I looked in the box that had the clutch fork in it & found a little plastic clip. The square thing in this link.

Can anyone tell me where it go's.
I hope I don't have to strip it all down again to put it in.
Thanks
Marc

If you mean the little black thingy it clips the pushrod to the outer end of the fork.
