Those sure look like Matt Lee steel, with the rolled edge.
Than's a HUGE deal for those with the tyres. it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

Crikey what a bargain! Those wheels alone sell for quite a bit more than that on eBay!!!

Yes I'm sure whomever brought them will be happy, would have had them myself but they are a bit extreme for my 99% road 90 and yes a bargain but that is what this forum is about (better than ebay)
Just for reference whom did buy them? and can we have a photo fitted DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Really? When new they would have been £736 including delivery being £184 each. I sold a set of five in better condition with the same tyres with more tread for £900 I think it was? Click image to enlarge I would say 100% they are Matt Lee Mach 5s. I paid £450 for a set of five without tyres that needed refurbishment. The Cooper STT tyres I ran on my previous set of Mach 5s were as noisy as hell and needed a bucket load of weights on each wheel. I now use Dynabeads on the latest set that negate the requirements for any weights. They are only 'valuable' to those that particularly want a set due to their rarity and are prepared to pay through the nose for them. The combination above is a fair price for just four IMHO. It depends how much money you are going to invest messing with them and getting them up to scratch, I doubt there's much fat in it knocking them on again afterwards having had a set refurbished myself? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Yes, really. These have been bringing high prices recently (I should know, I bought some a few weeks ago!) as they went out of production (as I'm sure you know) and are still highly regarded and sought after. Original selling price and historical sales values are largely irrelevant when demand exceeds supply. |

I bought my set back in December for £650 with tyres. Sold the rubber for £200, so total paid was £450.
After keeping careful watch for a set for a year I had seen very few come up., however, since December I have seen 3 or 4 sets come along. I wonder why lately more have been coming up? A friend of mine managed to get a set of 5 beadlocks yesterday they look pretty nice. Very happy with mine, fitted a Cooper 285/75 to it just to look at the fit with the offset, it's exactly what I had hoped for size and offset. Going to go Km2's though. Has anyone heard of any issues with the welds on them? Mine appear to be fine, but I was told that there was a batch that had a few cracks in the welds. Not sure if that's true or not. Being pretty rare over here, I think some people confuse them with Zu's. Taking them in this week to remove the powder coating and change to satin black. Yes there was a very early batch that had different rolled edges to yours and mine. There were a few that were reported to be cracking first manifesting itself by the tyres not holding air. I believe this was the first transitional design change. Matt Lee also sold the manufacturing rights for a while before buying them and the tooling back to go back into production before giving up about a year or so later due to cheap copies. In my opinion and obviously others by the way they are snapped up they are a great looking wheel and not as common as most others. I went to KM2s 305/70 and the noise improvement over Coopers is vast. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
