Can I use Pre1986 brake pads on newer model?
Hi all,

I've ordered a set of defender front brake pads wrongly and received the STC2956 (for pre 1986 Defenders using STC8573 retaining pins and clips).

I'm wondering if it fits my MY2001 ABS model which uses SFP000260 brake pads and STC8574 retaining pins.

Apart from how the brake pads are being secured, do different MY calipers differ?

Have already placed order for the correct set but wondering if they are both compatible just with a different pin to hold them down.
Unfortunately, air freight cost is more than the item cost so returning is not an option.

Best thing to do would be to remove one of your existing pads and physically compare with the new.
I'm pretty sure you'll be ok with rears but I'm not so sure about the front pads as I think they may have changed the pad when they changed to the larger diameter caliper piston.
