diff lock , sorry , i have searched

sorry to ask a diff lock question , but its new to me . i have over several weeks , sprayed lots of wd40 onto the mechanism , yet the lever is very springy when trying to get diff lock , high n low are easy . when i push the lever across to diff lock , the light comes on but the lever just springs back as soon as i remove my hand , i can see the spiggart thats sticks out of the box and that is turning with the lever , i have tried driving slowly in both high/ low in first yet i still can not get it to engage , is there a real art to engage the diff lock , and does the fact that the lever will spring back when trying to engage df that it could be seized in the box , its got new oil , apologies again , but if it there , i might as well have it ready , just incase , thanks ady

No spring across the gate. Check that there is moth pushing it back over, like thectrim, carpet etc

It could just be it needs adjusting. Mine would do the same, in the end removed the transmission tunnel cover, and adjusted/tested/lubed all linkages and now good. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Just been out removed all that middle bit , put a 13mm socket on the spiggatt n bobs ya uncle , it's now working , the slop in the mech just did not have enough push , the lever now works a treat , will grease it up n replace any bad bits

that looks to be were my problem lies , the arm appears to twist on the slop , so next weekend , in day light , i`ll go through it all

On mine, the little short wire linkage at the bottom of the arm was seized solid in the holes. When you pushed the lever it would just spring back. A lot of waggling the link and plenty of copper grease fixed it.
