Central Locking Problem
Hello all.
A central locking fiasco over the past 24hrs and wondering if anyone has any thoughts, similar experiences or remedies?

Yesterday I was trying to open the 110 (2011 Puma) with the fob and the doors kept re-locking. They went through a funny sequence of lock, unlock, and then lock. Eventually managed to get in before the door locked, but as soon as I was in, locked again. It seemed to be led by the driver's-side door.

Overnight I decided to leave the vehicle unlocked (lucky me, live at the end of a private track and generally no Defender thefts round here) so that I wouldn't have any trouble in the morning. Got in, fired up, all fine, drove to work. Tried locking it with the fob and as I walked away the alarm went off and the doors unlocked. Re locked with the fob, turned to walk away and you guessed it....

So, is this because:

a. The cold (comfortably sub zero the past two days, this morning was -6c) or
b. The fob battery dying and sending funny signals or
c. Some other glitch?

Any ideas?

Thoughts or advice welcome as always Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Blimey ,
I had a problem with my 2007 Puma 90 last week . When I locked it the indicators didn't flash , but when I unlocked it they did . This happened for about three days , now its all working fine !!
Another strange thing a Defender does !!
Hope you get yours sorted . Thumbs Up Defender 90 Tonga green . My 2007 County .2.4Tdci puma .
Too many other Discos to mention, including a V8 petrol Disco3 and diesel Disco 3 !! ( All gone)

Actually, come to think of it, think my indicators were a bit random as well. Was it cold when yours did it? Still got the original battery if it's a 2007? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Interior door light switches or the solenoids themselves can struggle in cold weather when the grease hardens. Best solution seems to be to clean the grease off and lubricate with a more suitable medium.

Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the advice.

It seems (at this stage) to be an old-fashioned mechanical glitch. Phew (for now). The locking mechanism on the driver's door was finding it very difficult to go up and down without some manual help, likely cold expanding the plastic of just some fluff and crud from over usage.

So it might need a dash of lube to free it up and get it moving freely and avoid further manual manipulation....... Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I think that's a warning that the key fob battery is running low.
