To remove the moss, Throw it in your washing machine (When the other half goes out!)
All our lowering ropes at work go through the wash every now and then, they come up lovely. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Washing sounds a fine idea I will need to work out a way to wrap the eyelet bit to stop it demolishing the machine. A towel and cable ties should do it.

I use old socks when I wash things which have thimbled eyes or other metal bits to prevent the washing machine drum getting damaged.
Two or three old socks and a cable tie seem to work well. |

I rather assumed that the OP was asking about a synthetic rope, in which case only the thimble need be 'socked', which doesn't require a particularly big sock.
If it's a wire rope, it is probably best not to put it in the washing machine since it is likely to cause upset with the Domestic Authority when she finds out that the machine has wiped out the kitchen whilst self-destructing! 
The sock trick has worked well with ratchet straps for me (not the ratchet mecanism though, before someone asks!), though you do get some scary noises from the machin even so, and you need to avoid the spin cycle. Last edited by blackwolf on 23rd Nov 2015 7:45pm. Edited 1 time in total |

My dad's had to get himself a "dirty" washing machine for all that sort of thing, for obvious reasons  |
