2016 Defender 130 Puma 2.2 HCPU Santorini Black

3.5 V8 running issues

1984 3.5 V8 totally standard. 130k miles. Runs the sweetest of any I have owned ........ until it's warm and it loses all power and sounds awful. Can't maintain 15mph and any large throttle opening slows it down more. It's like a switch. Turn it off, let it cool down and she runs like a dream once again.

Changed the carb diaphragms as I thought it might be leaking but no change. It's on fresh petrol and half a tank. Temps all good. It's so odd that it runs so so well initially.

I am wondering about the ballast resistor but has anyone else experienced similar or could throw some advice? 1951 80" S1 2.0

Fuel vapourisation?
Is the fuel line near exhaust heat?

Fuel pump electric/ mechanical?
Could be weak

Amplifier on side of distributor getting hot??

I had the same issue when I was running my v8.
It was caused for me by fuel vaporisation heat from the engine ,I wrapped some heat proof stuff around the fuel lines and it never happens again .

Nit of an update. Starts lovely on choke. Runs until semi warm and the come off the choke all seems well. When warm it starts the above symptoms and all clears if you give it choke again when warm........ Feels like you have set cruise control but she flies again.
baffled. Sounds like a carb issue 1951 80" S1 2.0

Choke on increases fuel, so you appear to have a fuel/air issue.
Firstly check all breather pipes for splits.too much air would cause your symptoms and if you have a split in a pipe it sucks more air when you increase rpm.
Check routing of fuel pipe and check fuel pump
The reason I say this is the pump may not be working correctly, and when you switch off or go on tick over it primes back up,
Easy to test, run a gravity fuel feed direct from another tank held above the height of the engine,
It's all a case of trial and error.
My 3.5 had similar problems and it turned out to be a split in breather pipe.
