please help!!! gears
Hi All. Im new to the site!! can anyone help me??? I have a 2004 90 td5. 60k. had a 300tdi previous with 189000 on clock when sold it. The gearbox on my td5 is awful!!!!! from 1st into second it grinds and even second into third it grinds. I have proper oil in it and have had clutch changed. my mechanic is concerned because an oil leak has appeared from the gearbox. I am serious thinking replace gearbox< or do you guys think anything different. ps my old 300tdi gears were a gem,
thanks, steve. Smile Embarassed

All R380 gearboxes crunch from 1st to 2nd and, to a lesser degree, from 2nd to 3rd.
There are some better oils out there but sourcing them is difficult.

This stuff is highly rated.

I will be putting it into my gearbox when next in for service

I have Difflock products in all boxes and diffs. TD5 52 plate.

Gearbox now very smooth even when cold.

It's expensive stuff, but a lot less than a new gear box if it works.

I'm pretty interested in this oil as it seems to get a lot of positive reviews.

I have some concerns that no information is given about the oil - such as viscosity, and I have a certain cynicism as to how a Land Rover forum can develop an oil that seems better than the big boys.

I have got two vehicles with the R380 gearbox, both with the standard 1st - 2nd shift problem when cold so I'm very tempted.

Does anyone know the back ground to this oil, or of personal experience with long term use.

Brian

Presumably it's a rebranded something else.
