I am looking for a good value cycle carrier, for occasional use. I don't want to spend a fortune and this seems ideal if it will fit. Anyone here used one?

This OEM one works, I had it from my sport but works on my Defender.
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Discove...nav=SEARCH Only down side is if you have a 90 SW with kids in the back you need to remove bikes and unplug it from the mount before you can open the rear door. The tow bar/ chassis takes the weight though so it won't knacker the rear door hinges like the wheel mounted ones. Feels more secure than the tow ball fix ones also when you are bumping around green lanes because the mounting is solid. |

Get one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Defen...2a4b4724d3 They come up cheap on eBay quite a bit and the bracket bolts to the wheel carrier and pokes through the centre of the wheel and the actual bike carrier bit just slides on and I think there's a clip or bolt holding the two bits together. Can thoroughly recommend the MAXXRAXX bike carrier. Just took Gertie our 1999 110 on a 2K+ drive round France fully loaded with 5 bikes hanging off the back. Not a single problem!

I too need to transport 5 bikes (on a 90) and after quite a bit of research it looks like the Maxxraxx is the one for me. I like the fact you can still open the rear door with the bikes on, and all of the weight is on the tow bar bracket. The integral ratchet is pretty good too. It won't suit everyone I know, but it ticks all of my boxes.
Great to hear it's worked well for you with a similar load on a decent journey.
Any issues since? It's on my (long) list for Santa! Hope you sort the starter  |

Starter sorted ... apart from tightening up the nut on the stud. Bottom bolts fine, started fine, just can't get a ratchet in there to tighten it up. Seems lots of people don't bother! Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb

No real problems other than self inflicted. My Trek has exposed cables running on the underside of the top bar. There are red plastic covers on the ends of the bike carrying bits and one of them came off. Result was that (front) gear changing cable was partially cut through and I had to have them replaced. Think it was due to me getting bikes in correct order onto the rack. not something that's an issue when you;ve less than 5 bikes, but 5 is a bit fiddly when they're all mountain bikes.
