In South Africa most if not all Puma TDCi Defenders have had this problem due to the hot dusty conditions as far as I understand. Most have been replaced with the old unit, I think the new unit was only released this month Question , mine has the old unit so I expect it will start leaking and need replacement soon(with the new unit this time Mr. Green ), my old one started leaking at about 16 000km and was replaced at 20 000km.

Thanks Fontuin

Just I receive the answer from the dealer: Was replaced for the old one. New one was on the market from Sept.
So, we are waiting to have the same trouble again Sad Sad

Cheers!

I was wondering about whether this was the case, the problem with the Transit was/is probably not as severe because it would not be used in hot dusty condtions to the same extent that Defenders are (we don't even have transits here in SA).

Not a question of if, it is a question of when, the old pump will start leaking at some stage in the conditions I use my vehicle in.

I'm on my 5th Big Cry Nothing to do with dust. In my opinion. Its the location of the pulley and the tension on the belt. The belt does not ride over the little pulley it actually goes round the pulley. If that makes sense Embarassed Causing it to be pulled down. They should fit and idler pulley next to the vac pulley to reduce the stress.

I had a new one (new type) replace 4-5 days before going to Morocco it failed within 2000 miles. I was not allowed to take a spare as they are in limited supply and Land Rover said that one has been allocated to my car already so tough. Luckily for me the support vehicle had 2 spares. Also Nick at Yeovil Land Rover was on stand buy to ship one out for me

I am thinking of (if I ever get mine back ) buying a spare for next years trip. Is it easy to fit?
