I don't need to measure to know the standard Land Rover tow bar on my 130 is very close to 50 cm off the ground. I'm guessing no one working at LR must ever have noticed that. Rolling Eyes
The one from Nakatanenga seems exactly what I'm after. Cool

Would love a towstep bar BUT

I would not want to tow with the max weight a Defender can, with an adjustable on a tow step bar,, due to 3500 kgs of leverage etc,
There are some with lower stays that go back to the chassis

OP has OEM kit and that does have the lower stays that go back to the chassis - from the two pictures it looks like a very similar tow height could be achieved in relation to these stays with both setups?

You don't want to adjust the towball hight down on a tow step with either a drop plate or an adjustable slider like these

No support to the lower, I would not want, up to the max tow weight of a defender, swinging on a unstayed ball at the bottom of the plate

There is a picture somewhere that i can not find ! where someone has bolted a unstayed Dixon Bate adjustable slider to a tow step,, rather him than me !!!

Warpigs first effort !!!

What's the difference between these two setups?

Both have the tow ball in line with the chassis stays and the mounting bolts for the tow bracket below the stays; albeit on the rear step bumper it is lower.

TAPE MEASURE TIME!

350 - 420mm is the height set out in EC Directive 94/20/EC

That is the height that caravan manufacturers will be working too.

Don't guess just measure!

Unladen - I don't know what the real world consequences of adding weight would be, only the theoretical one based on the spring specs:

Where are the measurements taken from to make these 90mm or 160mm lower - is it the lowest bolt hole on the backing plate?

I'm after the plate in the blue defender where is it from??
i want to drop the ball using a plate but want a 6 hole version so it's attached with 4 bolts not 2
