Sawtooth spare stolen
My mate had his sawtooth stolen off the back of his xtech last night. It was parked on his drive in penkridge which is near Stafford. Other reports of alarms going off so be on the look out in the Stafford / Cannock area.

Unfortunately spare wheels being stolen is not uncommon. Did he have a lock on it or locking wheel nut? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

You can buy a locking wheel nut tool for less than a tenner on ebay so if they want it they will have it unless you go for something stronger! Jeff

Lord knows why LR have not developed a retro fit spare wheel carrier whereby a plate sits over the nuts and runs in through the rear door where it is securely locked? Can't be that hard to create a metal plate, with three long threaded bolts and then have similarly located holes in the rear door. It should be an automatic upgrade for anyone who purchases an Autobiography or other variant with snazzy wheels. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Why would LR care if your spare is stolen? After all where are you going to buy the replacement wheel?

I use the biggest motorcycle-lock-type chain that will fit, with the most deterrent-looking padlock that will fit. I have no doubt that if the villains want the wheel they'll still get it, but it makes it difficult for the casual thief expecting just a locking nut, and hopefully would be both noisy and slow for the tooled-up professional. Just make sure if you use a chain that whatever you lock the wheel to cannot be removed or cut easily.

Also consider a loop of wire which, if cut, sets off the alarm, and I have even heard of someone who fitted a GPS tracker inside the tyre (though I am not sure what happens if you actually have to use the spare in this case - I can't imagine that it is very well balanced).

Locking wheel nuts were fitted.

I think all you can do is back up to a wall. Worst part of owning any Land Rover is the theft.

I purchased one of these to protect my spare.

Easy to fit, looks good. I did change the lock, just to ensure there were no spare keys around. Myers - Somewhere on Salisbury Plain

I like that looks neater than the chain I was going to put on.

Does anyone know if the one for the Boosts will fit the Dual Finish wheels?

If you look at the pictures you'll see the Sawtooth disc is smaller than the Boost.

There is a thread on here all about this lock, we had one to evaluate and it looked like a well thought out piece of kit, others thought otherwise

I'm happy with the lock and it's easy to fit.

The only thing I've done is to put some tape around the key hole to keep road crap out.

Easy solution, looks good and should slow down or put off anyone thinking of nicking the spare Myers - Somewhere on Salisbury Plain

Tough decision, isn't it? Do you reverse up against the wall to protect the spare, or nose up to the wall to protect the vehicle?
